Crowds have been gathering at Dublin’s Grand Canal Dock again this evening in scenes that have outraged locals on previous occasions.

Images show mainly young people, with very few wearing masks and with little or no social distancing on display, drinking and making the most of warm temperatures after a particularly warm day.

The area has become a popular drinking spot in recent weeks and has led to condemnation from locals and public representatives.

Local Sinn Fein TD Chris Andrews has previously described similar gatherings as “unacceptable".

The Dublin Bay South deputy said: "It's really disheartening to see these scenes at the height of a pandemic.

"This is a residential area and what residents have to put up with is unacceptable.

"This is not a once off and residents really need to be protected."

He added: "The gardai are doing their best but Government needs to do more."

The Garda press office said they had not received any complaints or reports of disturbance this evening.

Locals have previously said the gatherings were a "nightly occurrence".

"It’s just madness what goes on down there every night,” one local said.

One local told Dublin Live how they were considering moving from their Grand Canal home as the nightly lockdown gatherings in the area was causing them stress.

They told Dublin Live: “I’m very stressed at the moment because of the situation down there, but basically it’s like living in Benidorm.”
