Fine Gael TD Leo Varadkar has been dating cardiologist Dr Matthew Barrett since 2015.
The pair recently took their relationship to the next step by moving in together into Matthew’s new €800k Dublin home on the South Circular Road.
The doctor reportedly paid €20k over the asking price for the stunning three bed Victorian house.
After the house purchase a spokesperson for the Tánaiste confirmed that Leo was set to move out of his Dublin West constituency.
“Dr Matthew Barrett has purchased the house,” the spokesperson said, adding that Leo “plans to move in with his long-term partner in due course”.
When running to become Taoiseach in 2017, Leo said of his other half: “Matt is just a very special person. Someone who is unconditionally on my side, which is always great.”
“He is the kind of person who has made me a better person. I know I sound like bloody Jack Nicholson in As Good As It Gets, but it’s true.”
He also admitted that he believes Matt is smarter than him.
“Matt is definitely cleverer than me, which occasionally I can find intimidating.”
“He is very, very intelligent. He can read faster than me. He can do calculations faster than me.”
“He is very bright. He is a Gaeilgeoir as well,” Leo gushed.
“And although he is not really party political, it is amazing how quickly he understands politics. He gets it really quickly.”
While the pair tend to keep their relationship out of the public domain, Leo previously opened up about how stopped being a workaholic when he fell in love.
“I liked being just me, living alone, being totally committed to work and not understanding why people weren't 100% committed the way I was.”
“That does change. You do need somebody who you go home to sometimes, who you know is unconditionally on your side.”
