A spokesman for Irish Rail has said they have “extensive operations” in the area around Howth Junction DART station where a woman fell onto the tracks after a “disgraceful” anti-social incident last month.

Barry Kenny told Newstalk radio that work is continuing to protect people and “to make sure it’s a safe environment” after the woman was seen falling between a train and the platform after encountering a group of teenagers.

“Thankfully she wasn’t seriously injured,” Mr Kenny said, “but it was disgraceful.

“The gardaí responded and we have had extensive operations in that area including at Howth Junction station in recent weeks, both to assist in the essential travel measures and address anti-social behaviour.

“That work is continuing and will continue to ensure that we have the resources there to protect people and to make sure it’s a safe environment.”

A Garda spokesperson confirmed that an investigation is underway.

“Gardaí are investigating an incident of assault that occurred in Howth Junction Dart Station on 1st April 2021 at approximately 9pm.

“A woman fell from the train platform during the incident and sustained injuries.

“An investigation is ongoing into this matter. No arrests have been made at this time.”

While the incident occurred early last month footage only recently began circulating on social media.

In the footage a number of youths are seen standing on the train platform as a woman runs by. Two teens attempt to shove her, with one of them moving his bike in her direction.

A second woman carrying a bag runs by and the bike is shoved into her path, forcing her to stumble and fall off the platform.

The youths then move away from the platform as onlookers attempt to help her.

A security guard comes to the woman’s aid before she is pulled up from the train tracks.

One of the youths is then seen holding his hands to his head while another flees, as two teens on their bikes begin to move away from the scene.
