It may be time to wave goodbye to the short-lived glorious weather as Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning from today.

The national forecaster has put the warning in place for Clare, Limerick, Galway, and Mayo from this afternoon until 6pm this evening.

Those living in these counties should expect heavy downpours and thunderstorms with a risk of spot flooding throughout the afternoon.

The showers will extend further north and east during the rest of the day but many parts of the midlands and east will stay dry with sunny spells, Met Éireann added.

In a tweet, Met Éireann said: “UPDATE: Status Yellow Thunderstorm warning for Clare, Limerick, Galway & Mayo

“Scattered thunderstorms bringing heavy downpours this afternoon. Risk of spot flooding. Valid: Now until 18:00 Thursday 03/06/2021.”

However, from Saturday temperatures are predicted to begin to rise again ahead of dry weather with some scattered showers next week.

While Saturday may start off with rain and drizzle over Ulster, the midlands, and north Leinster, meteorologists expect that it should clear up by afternoon with dry and sunny conditions. Temperatures are set to hit highs of 20C.

Sunday looks to be a nice day too, “feeling pleasant” with sunny spells and some isolated showers. Temperatures are to hover around 15 to 19C with some light breezes while overnight conditions are to drop to 7 to 10C with dry conditions.

Bank Holiday Monday will bring a dry, sunny morning. It should be warm too with temperatures of 16 to 20C. Driest conditions will be in the east as scattered showers are expected to come from Atlantic clouds.
