Ireland legend and Sunday World columnist Paul McGrath urged anyone who can to donate to the Remember Emma Heffernan Walk fundraiser as he set out to take part in the walk in memory of the Wexford youngster today.

Little Emma, who was born with serious health complications, died just 16 weeks after she was born in 2013.

To mark what would have been the Enniscorthy girl’s 8th Birthday on this week her family have been having a virtual 5K to raise funds for The Jack and Jill Children's Foundation who helped to bring Emma home from hospital to spend her final days with her family.

Paul was wearing a t-shirt which read: “Smile, love and remember Emma” as he took part in the fundraiser today.

“Heading off on The Remember Emma Heffernan walk,” Paul said. “Please donate if you can.”

Emma’s parents Carol and Fergus have raised a massive amount for Jack and Jill over the years through fundraising in memory of Emma.

As well as all those taking part in the 5k walk, Carol said her brother Alan and his friend Michael Harrington are both running 26 miles as part of the event. “We thank them both for their commitment to training for this in order to raise sponsorship for the Jack and Jill Children's Foundation,” Carol said.
