Hurricane Epsilon tail end to lash Ireland with rain and wind as warnings issued for 7 counties

The extreme weather front is currently rampaging deep into the Atlantic and there is a chance that we could feel the sting in the tail over the coming days.

And Met Eireann have issued two weather warnings for seven counties ahead of severe conditions in the west, southwest and northwest.

A rainfall warning has been issued for Mayo and Galway with up to 40mm of rain expected to drench the area.

The national forecaster cautioned: "Rain on Friday evening through to Saturday morning will lead to accumulations of 20 – 40mm, with higher accumulations in mountainous areas. This will bring a risk of localised flooding and heightened risk of flash flooding in mountainous areas."

The Status Yellow alert will be in place from 9pm on Friday, October 23 until Saturday October 24.

Meanwhile, a wind warning has been issued for Mayo, Galway, Donegal, Clare and Kerry.

A forecaster revealed: "South to southwest winds will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65 km/h with gusts of 90 to 110 km/h. Winds speeds may be higher in coastal and exposed areas."

This warning will be in place from 10pm on Friday, October 23 until 7am on October 24.

According to Met Éireann, this morning's bright and dry beginning will the last bit of good weather we see for the weekend.

Highs of 13 degrees are expected in the south east of the country, however, rain will move into the west by evening as the hurricane edges closer.

Tonight, wet and very wintery conditions will sweep across the west of the country and will eventually envelope the entire country by day break.

On Saturday, conditions are expected to deteriorate from early on, with wet and windy conditions with some sunshine making way for heavy showers in the early afternoon.

There will even be a risk of hail and isolated thunderstorms as temperatures plunge to below 11 degrees.

Saturday night will be cool and windy with clear spells and showers however, there may be a chance of thunderstorms in the west of the country as Hurricane Epsilon edges closer.

Thankfully the clocks going back will help us avoid the chilly early morning temperatures which are only expected to hit five degrees.

Sunday will be a mix of patchy rain and blustery thundery showers which will be at their worst in the west of the country.

The best of any sunshine and dry conditions will be experienced in eastern counties and highest temperatures will reach 12 degrees.
