Sadly missed Heartfelt tributes paid to mum-of-five Shirley Melia who died in M7 collision

Numerous heartfelt tributes have been paid to mum-of-five Shirley Melia who died in a collision on the M7 on Wednesday afternoon. 

The Monasterevin woman who was in her 40s, died after being hit by an articulated lorry.

Emergency services and a number of Garda units attended the scene.

She was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Tallaght, where she later died.

Her family has thanked members of the public for their help and understanding at this sad and difficult time.

Her notice on RIP.ie says that the death of Shirley Melia (née Worrell) of Nurney Road, Monasterevin, Kildare is deeply regretted by her loving husband Ger and children Sharon, Sinéad, Stephen, Aidan and Claire.

She is also sadly missed by her son-in-law Stephen, granddaughter Molly, sister Mavis, brother Godfrey, uncle Mervyn, aunts Evelyn and Mavis as well as brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, neighbours and friends.

Mrs Melia is predeceased by her loving mother Iny, father Archie, sister-in-law Geraldine and father and mother in-law Edward and Rose Melia.

Her funeral will take place at St John's Church, Monasterevin at 3pm on Sunday with burial afterwards in St Evin's Cemetery Monasterevin.

In the condolences section on the RIP.ie page people have offered “sincere sympathies to Stephen & Sharon, and all the Melia and Worrell families on Shirley’s passing. May she rest in peace.”

Another adds: “To Ger, Sharon, Sinead, Claire, Stephen and Aidan. Our sincere heartfelt condolences to you and the Worrell family on the sad passing of Shirley.”

Another person has written how they were “shocked to hear of Shirley’s untimely passing. My thoughts are with you all as you try to get through this difficult time. May Shirley rest in peace."

One friend has written: “Shirley, you were the best in the world & I will never forget you. I will always treasure our walks on the prom. Sleep tight Shirley.

"Give Ger, your 5 beautiful children, grandchild & extended family the strength to cope with the loss of such a beautiful kind loving person. Rest in Peace.”
