A community fundraiser to support the family of a tragic teenager killed in a motorcycle accident has raised almost €10,000.

19-year-old Calvin Gilchrist, from the East Wall area of Dublin, died on Saturday night after the bike he was riding crashed with a car on the Finglas Road in Glasnevin.

His pillion passenger was treated for injuries at the Mater Hospital and was later discharged while the driver of the car was uninjured.

The rider of a second bike that also hit the car was not believed to have been seriously injured.

Members of the local community are “devastated and shocked” by the teenager’s sudden passing and have set up a GoFundMe page to help the deceased’s family with funeral expenses.

A notice reads: “As a community we are left devastated and shocked by the sudden loss of Calvin under such tragic circumstances.

“Calvin was 19 years of age and died in such a sudden tragic way. No family would ever dream this nightmare would come their way.

“We would like to help his mother Leanne and his family in any way we can with funeral costs.

“Any help is greatly appreciated towards Calvins funeral.”

While the GoFundMe page’s €7,000 goal has been met already, members of the community are continuing to donate generously to the Gilchrist family.

€9,900 has been raised to date.
