A GoFundMe appeal has raised over €9,000 to help pay for the funeral of a tragic young mum who drowned while trying to help her son.

Mum of two Natasha Core (29) died on Wednesday evening while attempting to rescue her son Tyler at Swan Lake in Lough Gowna, Co. Cavan after she saw him struggling in the water.

She jumped into the water at around 8.30pm and while her son managed to get to safety, Natasha disappeared from view.

Her body was later recovered from the lake.

Natasha’s funeral service is taking place this afternoon at Church of the Holy Family, Loch Gowna, with requiem Mass at 1pm.

Now, a family member is asking for donations towards Natasha’s funeral costs.

Her cousin, Anne-Marie Fox, set up a GoFundMe page on Friday with a target of €7,000 and said that any donations would be appreciated by the family.

Ms Fox wrote: “Hi, my name is Anne-Marie Fox. I am a cousin of the late Natasha Core [and] I am looking for help to pay the funeral costs.

“Natasha tragically drowned saving her son's life. Natasha was a young girl aged 29.

“Natasha has left two young kids behind and anything you can donate will be really appreciated.
