Gardaí have seized a delivery van in Dublin for being almost twice the legal weight.

Earlier today, the Dublin Metropolitan Region (DMR) South Roads Policing Unit stopped a vehicle on suspicion of being overweight, according to the Garda Traffic Twitter account.

The van, which had been carrying crates with hundreds of fizzy drinks, was taken to a weighbridge.

When weighed, it was found to be 2,620kg overweight with a total recorded weight of 6,120kg.

The van was then seized and a fixed charge penalty notice was issued to the driver.
