Probe launched Gardai seal off scene after pensioner's body found in flat in Cork Street in Dublin

The Office of the State Pathologist is due to attend the scene.

Gardai are at the scene where the body of a man was found in Dublin's south inner-city earlier today. 

Officers have launched an investigation after the body was discovered in a flat near Cork Street.

Detectives will now launch a probe to determine if violence was a factor in the man's death.

A garda spokesman told the Sunday World that they are still investigating all aspects of the discovery of the body.

"Gardaí at Kevin Street are investigating the discovery of a body of a male in unexplained circumstances on the morning of Thursday, 29th April, 2021, at a residence in Cork Street, Dublin 8.

"The body of the man, aged in his 70s, remains at the scene. The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified."
