Appeal Gardai say Donegal hit and run 'hard to comprehend' after driver leaves teen boy injured

Gardai in Donegal have said it is “hard to comprehend” how a driver could leave the scene after a young teenage boy was the victim of a hit and run. 

Gardai are investigating the incident in the Kilmacrennan area in which a teenager was knocked off his bicycle on Tuesday last, between 5.50pm and 6.10pm.

The 14-year-old boy sustained minor injuries after he was knocked off his bike by a vehicle near Leitir Church on the Kilmacrennan to Ballyare Road.

Sergeant Eunan Walsh is appealing to anyone with information to contact gardai in Milford.

“It's hard to comprehend, especially when a young person is involved to just to leave the scene, not knowing what injuries may have been sustained by the young person.

“It is very, very disappointing.

“The young fella involved did not have a description of the vehicle so we're appealing for information in the matter.

“We’re appealing for anybody who was in the general area on the date and who may have dash cam in their vehicles, to come forward to gardai at Milford.”

The Garda Press Office confirmed that officers are investigating a collision which occurred at Leiter in Kilmacrennan, Co Donegal on Tuesday, August 3, at approximately 5.50pm when a vehicle collided with a cyclist.

“A male youth, the cyclist, received injuries following the collision. But these were non-life threatening,” gardai said.

“Anyone with information or people who may have video footage, including dash-cam, between 5.45pm-6.15pm can contact gardaí in Milford at 074-9153060.”
