Gardai have taken to rooftops, coastlines, fields, and Garda stations all across the country in response to a “dance-off” challenge laid down by Swiss police.

Last week, officers were spotted by members of the public dancing on the roof of a building but now the boys and girls in blue have joined forces up and down the land to bust their moves.

They performed their dance, to the song ‘Jerusalema’ by Master KG featuring Nomcebo, in various locations and even sealed the deal with some obligatory Irish dancing.

Officers wrote alongside the video: “We have stepped up to the Swiss police @fedpol #JerusalemaChallenge. Gardaí across Ireland answered the call to give the pubic we serve a lift in these challenging times. #GardaJerusalema #StayhomeStaySafe.”

The video is in response to a challenge laid down by Swiss police in December 2020, when they released footage of their own officers dancing in the snow.

Shortly after, Frankie Beats took to Twitter to challenge An Garda Síochána to take part in the viral dance.

He wrote: "Police officers in Switzerland decided to do something special for its people in these dark times. Just amazing! @gardainfo? Will you accept the challenge if enough people retweet this?"

Decked out in their full Garda gear, members of the force say they have “stepped up” to the dance battle video challenge laid down to them by their Swiss colleagues.

The response online has been tremendous, with the Gardai praised for brightening up everyone’s day.

“Absolutely brilliant,” one person wrote. “I love it. Well done & fair play to all, it’s fab.”

Another added: “Fantastic. Great start to my day especially on this dull & wet Tuesday morning. Well done to all.”

“Well done An Garda Síochána,” another added. “Yer job is tougher these days. Bit of a brighten up a day. We know people will give out about this but ignore them.”
