Gardaí rescue 'innocent' young horse with open wounds from 'monster' abusers

"His legs have fresh, open wounds from a bad sulky/trap harness. His little mane has been shaved off and his frail body was barely able to withstand the cruelty put upon him.”

An animal rescue organisation has thanked gardaí for stopping a gang who were abusing a young horse over the weekend.

Taking to Twitter on Sunday, My Lovely Horse Rescue shared a photo of the animal after two officers rescued him from the “monsters”.

They said that the horse was only around six months old and added that it was clear that he had been treated cruelly, with open wounds and a shaved mane.

“HEARTBREAKING,” My Lovely Horse Rescue said.

“Meet our latest rescue, baby Sefron. Yesterday evening, @GardaTraffic Waterford/Kilkenny/Carlow stopped this poor baby from being abused even further by youths. They fled and two kind Gardaí called us. They protected this innocent baby until we got there.

"Sefron is only approximately six or seven months old. He has fresh shoes on him. His legs have fresh, open wounds from a bad sulky/trap harness. His little mane has been shaved off and his frail body was barely able to withstand the cruelty put upon him.”

The rescue organisation called on the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine to prosecute people who abuse animals.

They said: “He has no chip so there is nobody to prosecute. @agriculture_ie, you made the laws on chipping and passports - when you are going to enforce them?

"Animals are being tortured in this country every day, yet the monsters that do this get away with it! We want answers!”
