A man and three children are currently being assessed by medical personnel after an incident in Co Waterford this afternoon.

Gardai say they had responded to alert at Kilmacthomas just before 2pm regarding a man who had barricaded himself into a car with three children.

A Garda negotiator attended the scene and the incident was resolved a short time later. The man and children are currently being assessed by medical personnel.

“This incident has now been resolved,” gardai said.

“Shortly before 2pm today, Saturday, January 9, Gardaí received a report that a male in his 30s had barricaded himself into a vehicle along with three children on The Greenway in Kilmacthomas, Co. Waterford.

“Gardaí became concerned for their welfare,” they added.

“A Garda negotiator attended the scene and the incident was resolved a short time later. The man and children are currently being assessed by medical personnel.”

Gardaí also thanked the media for their cooperation during a 'blackout' request that had been issued earlier in the afternoon.
