crime prevention Gardaí launch 'high visibility' policing plan ahead of the weekend to support Covid-19 guidelines
Gardaí have launched a “high visibility, nationwide" policing plan ahead of this weekend to support public health guidelines.
The new operation, which will focus on providing support for the vulnerable and targeting crime prevention, kicked off this morning and will remain in place until midnight on Sunday.
It will run in conjunction with a Operation Fanacht, an operation that already sees checkpoints set up on key routes around Ireland, and Operation Navigation, which is tasked with ensuring that pubs are complying to public health guidelines.
Gardaí say the new plan has been put in place to support the public health guidance through three key strands – community engagement, crime prevention patrols and checkpoints focusing on crime detection.
Deputy Commissioner, Policing and Security, John Twomey said: "Since the start of the pandemic, Garda members throughout the country have being helping the vulnerable and those who feel isolated.
“This involved simple, but important tasks such as collecting their prescription, delivering their pension, or even socially distanced contact.
“If people need such assistance or know someone who does, please contact your local Garda station. We are here to help.”
