Gardai have posted a series of pictures of these adorable dogs who were recovered this week as part of an ongoing investigation.

The Carlow Detective Unit said they are trying to establish who the owners are or where they came from.

Those who can identify the pooches are asked to contact gardai by email only.

“If anyone has any information that may assist in this regard we ask that they make contact by email only to Carlow.Community@garda.ie” gardai have asked, adding, “do not contact Garda Stations directly by phone or otherwise.”

The garda Facebook post sparked a major reaction online, with dog lovers leaving hundreds of comments.

One wrote: "The poor little dogs they look so sad. I do hope you find their owners."

While another wrote: "Great job at getting them safe. They all look so afraid. Hope they get good homes."
