GARDAI were expecting up to 60 people in a shebeen in north Dublin which they raided at the weekend – but only managed to snare a handful, it has been claimed.

This is according to one of the men who was questioned at the premises in an industrial estate on the outskirts of Swords.

It came as further video footage emerged of the extravagant purpose built bar which cops closed down.

In one clip a man tries to play pool while a girl lays outstretched on the pool table, cradling a bottle of beer.

Other pictures and videos show a brightly lit bar, fully stocked with kegs of beer and bottles of liquor.

“I got caught, I was f***ing kicking myself,” one of the men who was nabbed tells a pal on a group message.

“Five more minutes and I was gone. I never even wanted to go cos it was ****’s birthday plus there was three lads I never seen before and I didn’t like the vibe. I should have went earlier. They weren’t good at all.”

He adds: “They (the Guards) searched everyone. Can’t understand it. They said they were expecting 50 to 60 in the place.”

The man tells his pal that no drugs were found in the searches and agrees that the place won’t be reopening.

This was the third such premises to be found by Gardai since New Year’s Eve.

Alcohol, beer kegs and taps, cash, bar stools and other bar equipment were seized during the Swords raid which took place shortly after 10pm on Saturday evening and a number of drinkers were found on the premises.

No arrests have been made but the people found on the scene will be fined for breaching Covid-19 restrictions.

Gardaí said their inquiries are ongoing and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

A Garda spokesperson said: “As part of Operation Navigation, a private premises was searched by Gardaí in Swords, Co Dublin, investigating alleged breaches of liquor licencing legislation in support of current public health measures.“

The premises was searched under warrant by local Gardaí and ASU (Armed Support Unit) shortly after 10pm on Saturday, 23rd January, 2021.

”Gardaí have appealed to the public to continue to follow Covid-19 restrictions.“

The Covid-19 pandemic remains a public health crisis and An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to all citizens to comply with public health guidelines and regulations in order to save lives,” the Garda spokesperson added.
