Gardaí in Edenderry have arrested a man following a disturbance at a shopping centre in Offaly.

The unnamed man was charged with possession of an offensive weapon after he “produced a knife in a public shopping area.”

Officers have been investigating the incident which occured on Saturday December 11th

Gardaí also shared an image of the weapon which was seized upon the man’s arrest.

It shows a silver pocket style knife, with wear-and-tear on the tip of the blade.

A Gardaí spokesperson said in a statement: “Gardaí have been investigating an incident where a male produced a knife during a disturbance on the 11th December 2021 in a public shopping area.”

“This male has now been arrested and charged and we would like to thank the public for their assistance in the matter.”

“Possession of offensive weapons is legislated for by Section 9 of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act 1990/2009.”
