Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a man in his 60s died following a single vehicle road collision in Co Cork on Friday morning.

The incident occurred in Leap, Co Cork outside a private residence on the N71.

The man, who was the sole occupant of the van he was driving, died after the vehicle struck a pillar.

He was rushed to Cork University Hospital with serious injuries but died overnight.

No other persons or vehicles were involved in the collision.

In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are appealing for witnesses in relation to a fatal road traffic collision that occurred in the village of Leap, Co. Cork yesterday morning, Friday 25th February 2022 at approximately 11.30am.”

“The collision involved one vehicle, which struck a pillar on the N71 outside a private residence,” they continued.

“The sole occupant of the van, a male aged in his 60s, was seriously injured during the collision. He was taken to Cork University Hospital, where he passed away overnight.”

Gardaí in Clonakilty are appealing to any person who may have information in relation to the collision to contact them.

Any road users who were travelling on the N71, which is the main road between Skibbereen and Clonakilty, yesterday morning between 11.00am and 11.30am and who may have camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
