Arrest made Garda van seen in viral chase video was NOT stolen, sources say

In the clip, which was widely shared on social media, two gardai are seen running after the van as it makes off with several people on board.

A garda van seen being driven off at speed in a viral video was being “operated by a Garda at all times,” a source has claimed.

In the clip, which was widely shared on social media, two gardai are seen running after the van as it makes off with several people on board.

The clip was entitled: 'Bloke robbed the garda van with them all inside.'

In the video, a man can be seen running back towards the gardai as one of the officers attempts to stop him.

However, he dodges the officer, who falls to the ground, before making his getaway on foot.

Today, a source told the Sunday World the van had not been stolen and that the van was being "operated by a Garda at all times.”

When contacted about the clip, a garda spokesman said that, while An Garda Siochana do not comment on third party social media content, they are aware of a video circulating “of an incident in the Dublin 8 area which occurred on 18th March 2021."

“Gardaí responded to a public order incident in Dublin 8 yesterday,” gardai said.

“The suspect resisted arrest and attempted to flee the scene. Gardaí pursued the suspect and arrested him.”
