The collision in Wexford which left one man dead and three people injured.

The Garda Ombudsman is investigating after a man died in a road crash in the early hours of yesterday morning - shortly after the vehicle was observed driving away from a patrol car.

The vehicle, occupied by two men and two women, was not pursued by gardaí.

A short time later, the patrol car came upon the same vehicle crashed on the N25 at Drinagh on the Wexford Road.

As is routine in such incidents where the vehicle had recently come to the attention of gardaí, GSOC was notified and began an investigation into the crash.

It's understood the fatal single- vehicle collision took place at approximately 1.40am on the N25 at Drinagh on the Rosslare Road.

One of the passengers in the car, 25-year-old Sean Hurley, from Maudlintown, was taken to Wexford General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the car, a woman in her twenties, was also taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries.

Two other passengers in the car, a man in his late teens and another woman in her twenties, were treated for minor injuries.

Witnesses

The road remained closed for several hours to allow for forensic collision investigators to carry out an examination of the crash site and diversions were put in place.

Gardaí yesterday appealed for witnesses and are particularly appealing to those with camera footage from along this route at the time of the collision, to make it available to investigators.
