The funeral of “true gentleman” Tom Lynam who died while driving his tractor in Westmeath earlier this week has taken place.

Tom was killed in the single vehicle collision on the Mullingar Road in Kilbeggan last Monday morning.

He was laid to rest in the Relic Cemetery, Kilbeggan after funeral mass in St James' Church at 10am this morning.

General manager of Kilbeggan Racecourse and lifelong friend, Paddy Dunican said Tom had a huge impact on the area.

“When Tom’s sad passing broke here on Monday morning in Kilbeggan, a black cloud went over the town because Tom had been very much part of the entire community.

“He spent his life giving, an extremely generous man, helping everybody and he never said no to anybody.

“A major hole is left behind but equally so, he's made a major contribution to the town and to many people’s lives.”

Tom is predeceased by his mother Kathleen, father Lockie and brother-in-law Seamus.

He's survived by his brother PJ, sisters Mary (Daly) and Eileen (Robbins), sister-in-law Dolores, brother-in-law Sean, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, godchildren, aunt, relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends.

Mourners offered sincere sympathies to all of Tom's family and friends on the passing of a “lovely gentlemen gone too soon."

“Our sincere sympathy to PJ & all the Lynam family on the sad passing of Tom. May He Rest in Peace,” the Kildare Ploughing Association said.
