The 19-year-old student was found dead on February 3, close to the college where she was a first year Social Care Practice student.

Gardaí said they did not suspect foul play in the cause of her death.

Her funeral mass will take place on Friday, February 11, at 2pm inSt. Bartholomew’s Church, Killallon, Clonmellon in Co Meath.

“Cherished daughter of Donal and Fiona and loving sister of Rory. Predeceased by her grandparents Paddy and Maisie Carolan, nana Breege McCormack, and her cousin Patrick.”

“Leah will be sadly missed by her heartbroken parents, brother, grandfather Sean, uncles, aunt, aunts in law, cousins, extended family, her best friend Nadine, neighbours and her many friends.”

Tributes for the Meath student poured in online.

Her former secondary school, Loreto College Mullingar, offered their condolences to the “much-loved" student's family and friends.

The school wrote: “It is with the heaviest of hearts that our school community acknowledges the sudden death of Leah Carolan, Leaving Certificate Class of 2021.

“Leah was a much-loved student in Loreto College; she is remembered with fondness by each and every one of her teachers and other staff members, all extremely saddened by the news of her passing.”

"Leah’s six years in our school were marked by her quiet way, her unfaltering respect for all, her spirit of compassion and understanding, and her warm and radiant smile.”

“Leah - it is our pleasure to have known you; it is our privilege to have had you walk our corridors and sit with us in class. We pray that, in time, the gratitude we have in knowing you will help to displace the grief that is felt at your loss.”

Brownstown Camogie Club, a team Leah played with when she was younger paid tribute to the “thoughtful” and “kind” young woman.

“It's with the saddest of hearts that we acknowledge the passing of one of our former players Leah Carolan,” the club said in a statement online.

“Leah played with us all through her younger years and was as much loved on the pitch as she was off it.”

“She was thoughtful, kind and considerate and she will be deeply missed by all in Brownstown Camogie Club.”

“Our sympathies, thoughts and prayers are with Leah's family and friends at this terrible time, especially Fiona, Donal, Rory and the Carolan and McCormack families. RIP Leah.”
