Funeral arrangements announced for tragic Longford man killed in New Year's Day crash

A young Longford man tragically killed in a single vehicle car crash on New Year's Day will be laid to rest tomorrow.
Ciaran McDonnell, who was aged in his early 20s from Longford town, died when the car in which he was the sole occupant of left the road between Granard and Ballinalee (R194) at Clonfin last Saturday.
Mr McDonnell's funeral will take place at St Mel's Cathedral on Thursday at 11am with burial afterwards in Ballymacormack Cemetery.
Mourners will also be given to pay their respects at Glennon's Funeral Home this evening where the young Longford man's body will lie in repose from 4pm-5pm with removal to St Mel's Cathedral arriving at 5:30pm.
A notice on RIP.ie reads: "The death has occurred of Ciaran McDonnell tragically following a road traffic accident. "Ciaran will be sadly missed by his heartbroken parents William and Patricia, brothers, sisters, grandparents, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, girlfriend Mandy, relatives and many friends."

News of Mr McDonnell's death brought to six the number of people killed on Irish roads on what was the first weekend of the new year.
A male in his 50s died at Cork University Hospital on Sunday after being injured six days earlier in a collision between a car and the motorcycle he was driving on the N24 at Fawnagowan, Co Tipperary.
In a separate incident, nineteen-year-old Josh Boyd was killed when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a lamppost along the Sillogue Road in Ballymun, north Dublin shortly before 3pm on New Year's Day.
Saoirse Corrigan (21) and Shane Gilchrist, (23) both from Castlepollard, Co Westmeath were killed in a two car collision on the N52, at Lloyds, Kells, Co Meath on New Year's Eve.
Twenty-nine-year-old care worker Julie Ann Kehoe from Craanford, Co Wexford, who was driving in the other car involved, died upon arrival at James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown.
Ms Kehoe's three children, including a three-week-old baby, miraculously survived.
Her funeral will be held tomorrow at 12pm at St Patrick's Church in Cranford.Ms Corrigan's funeral mass takes place today at St. John The Baptist Church, Whitehall at 12.30pm with Mr Corrigan's funeral being held tomorrow at 11.30am in St. Michael's Church, Castlepollard.
