A fund has been set up for a young Donegal teenager who has been found living in a lambing shed.

The 19-year old has been living in the squalid shed for the past eight months.

The man became estranged from his family and found he had nowhere to live.

A landowner gave him refuge and has now offered him a piece of ground so he can leave the shed which he has lived in for the past eight months and move into a caravan.

Well-known local Foróige youth worker John Muldowney from Letterkenny befriended the man and is now trying to help him.

John has set up a Go Fund Me Page in a bid raise up to €8,000 to buy a caravan for the man.

Mr Muldowney said: "the man's circumstances are just awful."

"I am trying to help a wonderful young man whose circumstances are awful at present. He is estranged from his family .....and has been living in a neighbours lambing shed for the past 8 months.

"He lives in a very remote part of Donegal and is an animal rescue volunteer who has quite a menagerie, including pigs, goats, pigeons, turkeys, chickens and cats that are kept on a kindly local lady's land close by.

"He cares for these animals like children and it is because of them that he cannot simply move into a town or village; he needs to be close to them to feed and water them twice daily."

Things have deteriorated recently; after drinking to numb himself to his circumstances the young man thought about taking his own life, said John.

John revealed: "The only thing that stopped him was the thought of his mother's sorrow at burying her child.

"Last night, he related all this to me with such calm indifference that my heart was breaking for him.

"The lady in question has offered him a site to place a mobile home/caravan on; the issue is that he hasn't the money to buy one and have it connected to services. This is where I hope you can come to the rescue.

"Please donate whatever you can; every euro will make a difference. Let's show this kind young man that we care about him and that his life is worth living."
