He suffered 11 vertebrae fractures, a broken collarbone, broken scapula, several broken ribs, fractured tubular and fibula bones and a broken ankle.

The family and friends of a critically injured fireman are raising funds to cover his extensive medical bills.
Patrick Berry, a fireman with Athlone Fire and Rescue Unit, sustained “extremely serious and debilitating” injuries during a call out to a house fire in Mount Temple in Athlone, last Thursday after part of the gable wall collapsed.
He suffered 11 vertebrae fractures, a broken collarbone, broken scapula, several broken ribs, fractured tubular and fibula bones and a broken ankle as a result.
He also suffered swelling on the brain from the impact as well as severe lacerations to his neck and tongue.
Patrick is currently undergoing recovery treatment in Tullamore hospital, where he is receiving “fantastic medical care” and has had several operations.
Now, the hero’s family and friends have launched a GoFundMe page to help cover the cost of Patrick’s medical expenses after being told that he will have a “long and painful road” to recovery.
Robbie Beaumont, who set up the fundraiser, said: “We, his friends and family, would like to take the financial burden away from Patrick, his partner Nicola, and their three beautiful children by raising much needed funds to cover the financial costs of his medical bills, house renovations, and any unsuspected bills arising from his recovery after this devastating accident.

“Patrick’s home will need to be renovated to add a downstairs bedroom and bathroom in order to aid in his recovery as well as adding any modifications necessary to make his home accessible to his needs.
“This will also include any modifications and changes to both the entrance and rear of the home.”
To date, €13,550 has been raised out of a €50,000 goal since the fundraiser was set up earlier today.
Mr Beaumont added that Patrick’s family and friends “really appreciate any financial contribution” made to the fundraiser so far and have thanked donators for their support.
