Familiar faces share snaps on social media as they take part in Darkness into Light

The 2022 event was held to raise funds for suicide prevention charity Pieta House.

Singer and presenter Una Healy took part in the event in Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Taking to Instagram she shared: “I was delighted to take part in @dilthurles #darknessintolight2022 in the early hours of this morning along with my buddies for @pieta.house.”

“It was great to see such a huge crowd turn up to support such an important and vital cause,” her post continued.

“The breakfast baps and coffee went down a treat after the 5k for us all ☺️ and thanks to wonderful Ursuline Convent Thurles Choir for the beautiful music at the end #darknessintolight.”

2FM star Carl Mullan attended the Phoenix Park walk along with his colleague Aifric O’Connell as the pair broadcast live on air from the event.

Sharing a video to his Instagram feed, the newly-wed encouraged people to get out and take part in the charity walk.

“After the flood all the colours came out,” he captioned a video showing the sunrise amid the mountains.

“What does hope mean to me? I think that line in Beautiful Day perfectly sums up what hope means to me,” he said.

“I remember the morning after we went into the very first lockdown in March 2020, when things were just pretty terrifying for everyone - we played Beautiful Day on Weekend Breakfast on @rte2fm. For whatever reason on that day ‘after the flood all the colours came out’ really jumped out at me and it's stuck with me since.

“Whenever I'm finding things tough (because contrary to what social media might make you think, we ALL have times when we feel down), it's been a bit of a go-to for me… a reminder that things always get better. So for anyone who needs to hear it, just remember, after the flood all the colours do come out.

“Tomorrow, Darkness into Light takes place all over the country and all around the world. If you want to take part you can do so by walking, running, swimming or even just meeting a friend for a cup of tea and a chat as the sun rises tomorrow morning,” he said.

“We'll be broadcasting with 2fm from 5am-7am at the Phoenix Park so if you're heading along to that walk make sure to drop by and say hello.”

Beauty influencer Mark Rogers also attended the Phoenix Park event, sharing pictures of the walk to his Instagram story.

Meanwhile in Youghal, Co Cork, Toy Show star Adam King was joined by his family as he launched the early morning event.

Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald rose early to take part in the event despite a busy few days at the Northern Ireland elections in Belfast.

Taking to Twitter she shared pictures of the sunrise: “After the darkness comes the light. Belfast Hannahstown.”

Former RTE broadcaster Charlie Bird led the walk in Bray, Co Wicklow with over 2,000 participants taking part in the coastal town.

He addressed the crowd at the bandstand using a speech device, he told them to “live life to the fullest” to which he received a huge round of applause.

In Dublin, Fine Gael TD Neale Richmond walked in Marlay Park.

Sharing a selfie from the fundraiser, he said: “Always such a powerful morning participating in #DarknessintoLight & grateful to be back together with so many here in Marlay Park.”
