Dublin Fire Brigade attended to a fire in a moored barge on Dublin’s Grand Canal in the early hours of this morning.

The fire broke out on the water in the Hazelhatch area, between south county Dublin and Kildare.

The barge’s occupant had already rescued themselves from the vessel.

Both the barge’s own water supply and canal water was used to extinguish the blaze.

“Firefighters from Tallaght extinguished a fire on a moored barge on the Grand Canal near Hazelhatch early this morning,” Dublin Fire Brigade wrote on Twitter.

“One person self-rescued from the boat. Water was taken from the canal to supplement the water carried in the tank on the fire appliance.”
