Horror crash Driver lucky to escape injury after car skids off road and overturns in Fermoy, Co Cork

A driver had a lucky escape after their car overturned in a terrifying motorway crash in Cork.

Gardaí and emergency services rushed to the scene of the collision which occurred during bad weather in Mitchelstown, Co. Cork on Sunday.

The crash took place on the M8 motorway Northbound between Junctions 13 and 14 around 2.40 pm.

Gardaí from Fermoy raced to aid the driver with Mitchelstown and Fermoy units of Cork County Fire Service and the Community Air Ambulance also attending.

Luckily, three doctors also arrived at the scene and examined the driver who had been wearing a seatbelt and did not suffer any injuries.

The motorist was later taken to Cork University Hospital as a precaution.

Gardaí said the weather was particularly wet and visibility was poor at the time of the collision.

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana said: "Remember to adjust your driving according to the conditions around you.

"Rain and hail can turn driving conditions hazardous in seconds. Keep your distance, mind your speed, and always wear your seatbelt."
