A driver smashed a car into a lamppost in Dublin last night but was gone before firefighters arrived on scene.

Pictures show the badly damaged Mercedes vehicle and streetlight on the ground at the scene following the crash in Churchtown.

A spokesperson for Dublin Fire Brigade said: “Rathfarnham firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on Braemor Road in Churchtown last night. A vehicle had collided with a street light, no occupants on arrival. With the assistance of ESB Networks the scene was made safe.”

It is unclear if the driver of the car sustained injuries.
