Dog who was cruelly abandoned in Dublin enjoying Christmas in new forever home

Adorable Beau hit headlines when she was left tied to the railings at Dog’s Trust in Dublin over night back last December.

Now the pooch - who has been renamed Molly - will spend this Christmas curled up in front of the fire instead after being adopted by big-hearted Adrian and Ann Byrne from Lucan.

“Molly is very independent,” tells Adrian. “I think it’s because she’s had to survive.

“She’s extremely affectionate; she’ll come over to you and she’ll kind of snuggle up to you the way a cat would.

“But if she doesn’t want to do something, she won’t and she will give you the deaf ear.

“Molly is our sixth rescue dog in 25 years and our second from Dog’s Trust.

“We’ve no kids in the house so we always adopt big dogs because they seem to be the hardest to rehome - they kind of win the lotto when they come here!”

CCTV showed how Molly was callously dumped outside the Finglas-based rehoming centre while riddled with tumours and suffering from a severe ear infection.

And it’s believed the seven-year-old - who endured a six-hour operation to remove the lumps - may have come from an illegal puppy farm having been used to churn out puppies for profit.

“We lost our dog Bruce, another Rottweiler, three months ago,” Adrian, a company director, explains.

“We got him from Dog’s Trust when he was two and we had him for ten-and-a-half years.

“Unfortunately, too many things were starting to fail on him and he had to be put to sleep.

“After about a week, we said we’d go and see is there any more Rottweilers because we’re so used to the breed.

“Lo and behold, Molly - Beau as she was called - was available so we just took it from there.

“We weren’t aware of [the viral CCTV footage] when we went up to meet her.

“When we seen it our hearts were broken - that just cemented the fact we had to take Molly home.”

Dog-mad Adrian praised foster carer Sean O’Connell for getting the abandoned canine all ready for her new life.

And he urged anyone considering welcoming a four-legged family member into their home this New Year to give larger dogs a chance.

“You see Rottweilers in movies and they’re barking and showing their teeth,” he says.

“That’s just the media - this is our second Rottweiler now and if we had the choice we’ll always pick Rottweilers.

“What we find with them is they’re extremely easy to train and they have their own personalities. It’s just a gentle, timid breed of dog.

“When Bruce died there was a huge void in the house,” continues Adrian.

“My advice to anybody, if you’ve lost a dog, is don’t buy a puppy - go up to Dog’s Trust.

“There’s hundreds of dogs up there, there’s pedigree dogs, or whatever type of dog.

“From the day you pick them up, the dog is going to break your heart someday - you know that. But the joy they bring you over the years makes it all worthwhile.”
