Protest Crowds gather outside Dublin garda station calling for release of arrested man
Gardaí have launched an investigation into a gathering outside Rathfarnham Garda Station in Dublin where a man was charged over an outstanding bench warrant.
Officers were forced to attend a demonstration yesterday, when large crowds arrived at the station insisting on the release of a detained man.
It is believed that the man live streamed his arrest as he was due to speak at a separate anti-lockdown protest on Sunday afternoon.
Gardaí also believe that the rally was organised in protest of the arrest of a man on foot of a bench warrant that was executed by officers earlier that day.
Gardaí have confirmed that the man has been charged and is due to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice, at 10.30am today.
A garda spokesperson told the Sunday World: “Gardaí attended the scene of a demonstration outside Rathfarnham Garda Station yesterday, Sunday 25th October 2020 which appears to relate to the arrest of a man on foot of a bench warrant that was executed earlier in the day.
“The man was detained at Rathfarnham Garda Station.
“The man has been charged and is due to appear before the CCJ, Dublin today.
“The demonstration concluded without incident. No one was arrested. Investigations are ongoing.
“An investigation focused on the organisers of this protest is now underway.
“The advices of the Director of Public Prosecutions will be sought in respect of any further actions to be taken.”
