A construction worker has died after a tragic accident on a site in Co. Wexford on Monday afternoon.

The 47-year-old man, who has not yet been named, had been working on a site near the Seafield Hotel in Ballymoney and was crushed by a large metal shutter used to hold concrete.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the two storey house on the site shortly before 3.30pm.

CPR was performed for some time, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene before 4pm.

His body was taken to Waterford University Hospital later that day and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

The scene was preserved by gardaí following the incident.

The man was originally from the Waterford-Kilkenny border and had been working in Wexford for some time, the Gorey Guardian reported.
