'thank you' Beloved Dublin bookstore Chapters confirm they'll close their doors on January 31st

'Your support over the last 40 years and especially over the past number of months has been so greatly appreciated'

Beloved Dublin bookstore Chapters have confirmed that they’re set to close their doors for the last time on January 31st.

In a statement, owners William and Ger Kinsella thanked customers for their support.

“Following the announcement of our closure after 40 years in business, we would like to announce that we will be closing our doors on January 31st.

“Your support over the last 40 years and especially over the past number of months has been so greatly appreciated.

“We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible over the next two weeks.”

Customers quickly shared an outpouring of sadness to see the popular store close.

“Thank you for the many great books you've put my way, the productively lost hours, and the great conversations about books with [friends]. I'll miss sending my @IADT students to you for their reading, knowing you'll guide them well,” wrote one person.

“We will all miss the best book shop in Dublin and in Ireland. I love Dublin History and you have come up with real gems, anytime I am in the shop.”

“I will miss it greatly. I wish you all and the staff the very best for whatever you all do. Online shopping isn't the same for books,” shared another.

“My favourite place in Dublin city. Going to be so sorry to see you guys go! Thanks so much for feeding my love of reading and books over the years! Best wishes for the future,” another customer said.

Last October the store based on Parnell Street announced that they were set to close after 40 years in business.

“After 40 years in business @chaptersbooks will close its doors early in 2022.”

“To extend our sincere gratitude to customers old and new, we are hosting a huge clearance sale. 2 for 1 on ALL items, excl Bestsellers. Buy 2 items, get cheapest free. In store only.”

The shop was soon bustling with customers who wished to show their support for the beloved booksellers.

“Incredible to see such support already. A sincere thank you to you all for your custom over 40 years in business. We are truly grateful, William Kinsella, owner, and all the staff at Chapters.”

Established in 1983, Chapters was originally located on Wicklow Street before moving to Abbey Street and then on it's current location on Parnell Street.
