Fingal County Council have asked beach users not to swim at Front Strand, Balbriggan, north Dublin this week.

A ‘Do Not Swim’ prohibition notice had previously been issued for Malahide Beach but has since been lifted following results of “excellent” water quality in the area.

However, a prohibition notice at Front Strand Balbriggan has been extended for 72hrs due to a water quality result of “sufficient.”

The notice reads: “Warning - do not swim. Swimming in these waters may cause illness.

“Bathing is prohibited due to storm water overflow/unacceptable levels of bacteria in a recent bathing water sample taken on 07/08/2021. Likely cause: heavy rainfall.”

Further sampling will take place tomorrow, August 10, with results due Thursday, August 12.

Front Strand Balbriggan remains open but beachgoers are asked to respect the ‘Do Not Swim’ notices as they have been put in place to protect the health and safety of bathers.
