An angler was saved last night after he was surrounded by tides off the Donegal coastline.

The angler was fishing near Killybegs when he was cut off.

Members of the Killybegs Coastguard team rushed to the scene and assessed the situation

They contacted the Rescue 118 helicopter based in Sligo who plucked the angler to safety

A spokesperson said "Killybegs Coast Guard members assessed the situation and requested Rescue 118 to the scene. The Rescue 118 airlifted the angler to safety."

And the spokesperson added "Always remember if you see anybody in trouble on the water or along the coast or if you think they are in trouble ring 112 and ask for the Coast Guard."
