IRELAND is set to get its first drive-in panto for the upcoming festive season.

TV star Alan Hughes and his husband Karl Broderick have come up with the idea of staging get-togethers at Malahide castle in north Dublin to watch their production of Peter Pan on big screens.

Alan and several other members of the cast, including Jake Carter and Johnny Ward, today posed in their panto costumes.

The production managed to be put together following a last minute reprieve, where Alan and Karl got a government grant of €230,000 to stage it.

Their panto last year was held in an outdoor marquee, while previous years it was staged in the Tivoli theatre and Liberty Hall theatre.

This is Karl's 23rd year producing the panto, in which Alan stars as Sammy Sausages.

"We couldn't have asked for a more fairytale setting to soar to new heights with Peter Pan and this format had so many positives when it came to special effects,“ said Karl of its staging on screens at Malahide castle.

Panto's iconic double act Sammy Sausages and Buffy return as Alan Hughes (Sammy) and Rob Murphy (Buffy) lead the cast on a magical adventure to Neverland.

Dancing with the Stars winner Jake Carter plays the cheeky Peter Pan, while Fair City’s Johnny Ward is the evil pirate Captain Hook.

Looking out for our hero is the magical Tinkerbell played by Michele McGrath, who gets a little green-eyed at Peter having a new friend Wendy.

Paul Ryder returns to pantoland as Sparkle, Hooks' reluctant right-hand man and Keila Ana Whelan is the feisty young Wendy minding her little brothers John and wee Michael.

Tickets, priced at €50 per car, are on sale this Friday 27 Nov at 10am from panto.ie.
