€400 payment for households who take in Ukrainians to be signed off ‘very soon’

The minister confirmed that the payment is being looked at by Government and it is understood that a memo for Cabinet could be ready as soon as next week.

“This is something that government is considering,” she said.

“We’re hoping to bring a memo to government very shortly.

“I think it’ll be shortly, I think it’ll be very soon.”

The payment is being worked on by ministers Roderic O’Gorman, Humphreys, Michael McGrath and their officials.

Ms Humphreys said that they are “working on some options” and she said that the proposals will be first brought to the newly established Cabinet sub-committee on Ukraine.

Minister Humphreys suggested that the payment will be €400 per household irrespective of the number of people living there.

“To be honest with you, keep it simple, that’s the best way to administer any assistance,” she said.

Minister Humphreys was speaking to reporters at the first in person Intreo recruitment fair since the lifting of restrictions, with over 1,000 jobseekers and 50 employers at attendance.
