Oscar-winning star Olivia Colman clearly looks like she’s having fun on the set of a new movie being filmed in Co Kerry.

The 47-year-old English star is to spend the whole month in ‘The Kingdom’ as shooting continues.

Colman – who is currently making waves as Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown – is shooting Joyride, which is written by Tralee native Ailbhe Keoghan.

Our snaps were taken on Wednesday at Barrow Beach, which is about 15km from Tralee

Dressed in a smart blue suit and accompanied by her teenage Irish co-star Charlie Reid, Olivia was surrounded by a huge camera crew.

Colman won her Academy award in 2019 for The Favourite, in which she played another royal, Queen Anne.

Joyride is a warm-hearted film about motherhood and a teenager finding themselves.

Kildare native Charlie Reid, who has starred in just one small film before this role, is playing troubled teen Mully.

The film follows the adventures of two different main characters on the run and the relationship that grows between them.

Hundreds of extras have been employed to work on the movie, including a newborn baby.

Filming has also taken place at Farranfore and at a beach near Ardfert.

In the film, which is described as a ‘feelgood fairytale’, Colman plays a ‘train-wreck’ solicitor named Joy, who hopes that her friend will adopt her newborn baby girl as she is not ready to be a mother.

However, on the way to her friend’s house, Joy’s taxi is hijacked by a street urchin and Joy is forced to face her own suppressed maternal instincts, forcing her to reconsider whether she wants her daughter to be adopted or not.

The film is directed by Emer Reynolds, and Colman will spend most of this month in Kerry.

In one scene being filmed on the beach, Colman dashes across the sand as she attempted to save the teenage boy from drowning.

Mully’s father is a conman who exploits his child’s innocence and is played by Lochlainn O’Meara.

In one tense scene filmed on Friday, Lochlainn could be seen shoving Olivia out of the way as he made a beeline for Charlie, who was sitting on the beach.

Olivia fell to one side after the shove, with her new shoulder-length hairstyle falling into her face.

Olivia is married to Ed Sinclair, who she wed in 2001 and they have three children together.

The pair met while studying at Cambridge University as they were both rehearsing for a production of Table Manners in Cambridge.

“It sounds really odd, but I did fall in love with him at first sight,” Olivia told The Telegraph.

“When he walked into the room, I just went, ‘That’s him!’ Mind you, I suppose if he hadn’t wanted me, then I might have gone, ‘That’s him!’ at someone else a week later.”
