Fire crews from Dunmore East, Waterford City and Tramore responded to the incident following an alert at around 1.20 am and deployed a hydraulic platform to extinguish the blaze.

With the fire having torn through the dormer bungalow's upper story, the platform was able to deliver water from a height into hard to reach areas of the property. A water tanker was also used to supplement the high volume of water needed to extinguish the flames.

Nobody was injured by the fire, with all occupants outside the home when fire crews had arrived at the scene.

A spokesman for the Fire Service said it had caused extensive damage to the property and that its cause is unknown at present.
