Met Éireann have warned that a yellow weather warning may continue into the weekend driving all Halloween celebrations indoors.

Wet and wintery conditions will batter the west coast this afternoon and are due to spread east later today.

A Status Yellow rainfall warning has been issued for 10 counties and will come into effect at midnight tonight.

It is due to expire at 6am on Friday but could be extended until Saturday evening.

The alert covers counties Donegal, Clare, Kerry, Limerick, Cork and all of Connacht.

Met Eireann warned: "Heavy and persistent rain overnight Wednesday through to Friday morning will lead to some flooding and disruption.

"Accumulations of 30mm to 60mm are expected widely, with higher values in mountainous regions."

“Today is going to be blustery, showery conditions and some of them will be quite heavy and prolonged, particularly in the west of the country," Met Eireann forecaster Eimear Flood told Sundayworld.com.

“With that comes a risk of hail and sleet and some heavy thunderstorms.

"Further east the showers will remain quite scattered and those areas will get the best of the dry intervals.

“Overnight a change in air mass will bring milder, more humid conditions, but with that a lot of rain and there is a Status Yellow rain warning in place from midnight for western half of the country.

“So, tomorrow will be wet but there will be some dry spells extending north and the best of the dry weather will be in Munster and Leinster but it will still be quite damp.

“Friday, the rain will head east and will have some showers in the west but it will be wet and windier for the weekend across the country.

“So stay indoors and it is not the best for trick or treating anyway.”
