Susan Hunter is making sure that Irish women look shaped and sculpted this season. Even if you can't get into her store for a Covid-adherence fitting, Susan can help.

She has outlined the signs that your bra is not fitting properly and highlights what to look for when shopping online for lingerie.

The right bra can change the way your clothes fit as well as your posture. These guidelines will make sure you get the best look from your AW20 buys by choosing the best one for you.

"Wearing the correct bra size can do a lot more than lifting your bust," explains Susan. "When you get fitted and wear the best bra for your shape, your waist will be accentuated, and your look becomes more hourglass" she adds.

"Conversely, wearing an ill-fitting bra can cause back pain, sagging, poor posture and an all-over frumpy look," she says.

Signs that your bra is the wrong size for you include wires not sitting on your rib cage but actually on the breast itself.

This can be caused by bras that are both too big and too small. The wires of your bra should sit under the bust, with all the breast tissue in the cup. The centre front of the bra (the gore) should lie flat against your body.

Your breasts spilling over your bra means the cup is just too small. The cup should hold your entire breast without creating the dreaded 'double boob'.

Underband Support

Your bra should not move throughout the day. If it moves it means that the back size of the bra is too big and is likely to rub. Around 80pc of a bra's support should come from the underband, and if your underband is too big, it rises up at the back. This causes a see-saw effect, up at the back, dropping to the front, losing all that support.

Susan advises a professional fitting at least every six months.

Her years of experience in her Westbury Mall store means she and her team can fit professionally and accurately.

However, if you are lingerie shopping online, here are some tips that make it easier.

You need to have a good estimate of your size. You can do this with a tape measure at home. Think of your lifestyle too, bras are like shoes, they have different functions - are you sporty, do you wear lots of occasion wear or are you fashion-forward? This will help you choose your bra style.

Research fabrics

Research fabrics too. The feel of a material is just as important as the size. You definitely won't wear lingerie if the fabric feels rough or uncomfortable on the skin. This is where quality comes in.

Be aware that the models wearing the lingerie can give you a nice overview of how the lingerie would look but make sure you visualise it on your body shape. There is an array of different types of bras - full cup, strapless, balconette, wired, sports, non-wired, padded etc. Scroll through them all and read the description so that it suits you and your lifestyle.

If in doubt, don't be afraid to contact the company and ask for advice.
