The Cop26 climate change conference kicks off in Scotland today – and Harley-Davidson has supplied Police Scotland with a fleet of LiveWire electric motorcycles to make a statement as officers support the event.

The LiveWire is one our very favourite new motorcycles this year. This all-electric model offers high-performance motorcycling and bags of new technology. Now this premium machine is about to face one of the ultimate tests for any road bike.

Today marks the start of the ‘Conference Of the Parties’, or Cop26, in Glasgow. The United Nations event attracts world leaders, tens of thousands of negotiators, government representatives, businesses and concerned citizens. The idea is that they will all come together and find a solution to the challenges posed by the looming climate change catastrophe. It’s going to be as busy 12 days in the Scottish city.

Getting with the mood of the event, Superintendent Darren Faulds, of the Roads Policing wing of Police Scotland, said: “Where possible we have taken measures to ensure that Cop26 is policed in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way. As a result, one thing that will be green and very quiet is the fleet of Harley-Davidson LiveWire electric motorcycles. These have been provided to Police Scotland to support what will be the biggest climate change conference ever hosted.”

The ‘polis’, as they are known locally, will have the use of seven LiveWire motorcycles during Cop26, which takes place between October 31 and November 12. The conference brings world leaders together to discuss and accelerate action for positive climate change.

As one of the only major manufacturers with a fully-electric motorcycle, Harley-Davidson welcomed the opportunity to provide these zero-emission motorcycles to Police Scotland to support the safe running of what is an historic global meeting.

The LiveWire has a high-voltage Recharge Energy Storage System (RESS). This provides a minimum of 146 miles, or 235km, of city range. It’s not surprising that the bike has won a number of awards.

“Our work to improve our sustainability has been enhanced thanks to the support of Harley-Davidson, and we welcome these electric motorcycles as an addition to our existing road policing assets to help with the delivery of a safe and secure event,” Superintendent Faulds said.

This unique, fully-electric LiveWire fleet has been specially adapted to meet the exacting operational needs of Police Scotland. This task was successfully undertaken by the technical team at West Coast Harley-Davidson, the local dealership in Glasgow and also one of the largest Harley-Davidson dealerships in Europe.

The immediate torque of the H-D Revelation all-electric powertrain propels the new bike, giving it rapid acceleration to peak speed with just a twist of the throttle; there is no clutching or gear shifting required. The power blends perfectly with an optimised centre of gravity, rigid aluminium bolt-together frame and premium adjustable suspension.

So, if you’re in Glasgow this coming week and you fancy riding a bit faster than you should, check your mirrors first because this is one ‘polis’ bike that you won’t hear coming.

Dublin Harley-Davidson is the exclusive dealer for the LiveWire here in Ireland. Call any of the team on 01-464 2211 to order yours.
