Datytona RoadStar Gore-Tex boots, Lindstrands Orbit gloves and Halvarssons pants

IF you’re still scratching around trying to think of what to gift your nearest and dearest biker for Christmas, here’s another couple of ideas for inspiration.

Last week I gave you my views on Arai’s Quantic helmet and the Mora jacket from Halvarssons.

This week, it’s the Wish pants from Halvarssons, a pair of Orbit gloves from sister company Lindstrands and some quality boots from Daytona.

I’ll be returning with more comprehensive reviews of all the products in the spring when I’ve put up more mileage with them, but my first impressions are good.

The Daytona boots are available from Kennedy Motorcycles in Drogheda (041-9833825, www.kennedymotorcycles.com). The Wish pants and Orbit gloves – and the Mora jacket and Arai Quantic helmet reviewed last week – are available from Megabikes in Dublin’s Robinhood industrial estate (01-4784200, www.megabikes.ie) or from Arai and Halvarssons stockists nationwide.

The Orbit is technically a summer glove in that it’s lightweight and breathable, but once you’re using heated grips they’re perfectly good in all but the coldest of weather. Plus you get loads more feel than you would with a big set of winter gloves.

The Orbit is a textile glove with goat leather, knuckle protection certified to CE level one, a Dryway+ membrane and HI-ART abrastion reinforcement in the palm area. I’ve only just retired another pair of Lindstrands gloves that I wore almost daily for four years – they’re a really hard-wearing glove and I’m expecting more of the same with this pair.

Halvarssons Wish pants – €449

Worn with the Mora jacket (€699) I reviewed last week, the Wish pants feature a laminate membrane, again with Dryway+. They have HI-ART protection at the hips and knees.

There’s removable Outlast lining and Thinsulate for keeping cool when it’s warm and warm when it’s cool, a long connection zipper for connecting the pants to my Mora jacket, and also a handy pair of detachable braces.

The pants are Teflon coated, plus there’s heat and abrasion-resistant leather reinforcement in the seat area.

The level two CE armour is also adjustable for positioning – handy for lanky people like me where the knee protection tends to rise up to our thigh area.

As mentioned, I’ve worn laminate suits before but they do tend to be fairly stiff in construction. With the Mora/Wish combo, Halvarssons seem to have found a way of delivering a laminate textile suit that’s soft to the touch and extremely comfy.

The legs are adjustable for width and ventilation is good, with long vents on the outside of the thighs.

So far the Wish pants have kept me bone dry and warm in all conditions.

I’ve only had these a couple of weeks but do have the advantage of having owned a pair some years ago. They have a hefty price tag but they’re the best pair of road boots I've ever owned, with the perfect blend of comfort and protection.

The cowhide boots feature two zip fasteners at the front for easy access and you can adjust velcro fasteners for your specific calf size. They also come in sizing that caters for narrow or larger foot widths.

The RoadStar is fully waterproof and breathable thanks to the Gore-Tex lining.

Safety is excellent with shinbone protection, ankle protection and a reinforced inner sole with steel inlay. At the heel, you get 3M Scotchlite reflectors for night riding.

A premium boot that keeps you warm and dry, the RoadStar is also very comfortable to walk around in when you’re off the bike.
