Vicky Phelan has said that she is “feeling good” ahead of her next round of treatment after spending the day sightseeing in Washington DC.

The cervical cancer campaigner flew over to Maryland in the US in January to take part in an immunotherapy clinical trial at the National Institute of Health.

The Limerick native’s treatment is going well so far, and she decided to take a day out sightseeing before she enters her second round of therapy.

Vicky took to Instagram to tell her followers that she had been exploring the tourist hotspot of Washington DC while she took a break from social media.

The mum-of-two wrote: “After a VERY quiet week following a lot of RnR and a break from everything, including social media I ventured into Washington DC today to do some sightseeing.

“The weather here over the past week has been shockingly bad - cold and wet. The forecast for today was good without being too hot so I decided to rent an ebike from @capitalbikeshare and cycle into DC along the Mount Vernon to Washington trail.”

Vicky visited sights such as the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial, which she described as “pretty spectacular.”

“I really wanted to see this one up close and personal,” she said of the iconic statue that sitsat the end of the National Mall in Washington DC.

“It is pretty spectacular, I have to say, since it is so iconic and can be seen from such a distance.”

She also headed to the White House, adding that it was much less busy than when she first arrived to the States in January – the same time that President Joe Biden was inaugurated.

“I had a fabulous day sightseeing and feel good heading into treatment tomorrow,” Vicky continued, ending the post.

“I will certainly sleep tonight after all the cycling and walking today. On days like this I feel so incredibly grateful to be so well.”
