Homemade garlic naan bread

Homemade garlic naan bread

INGREDIENTS (makes 8-12):

  • 300g plain flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp table salt
  • 70g natural yogurt
  • ½ egg, beaten
  • 150ml water, lukewarm
  • 30ml rapeseed oil
  • 100g ghee, melted
  • 4 tbsp coriander, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped

METHOD:

  1. Preheat a griddle pan over a medium heat. You can also use a barbecue if preferred.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and dust lightly with flour. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the yogurt, egg, lukewarm water and oil.
  4. Pour the yogurt mixture into the flour mixture and combine until a soft, sticky dough is formed.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and divide it into 8-12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into balls and arrange on the baking sheet.
  6. Lightly brush the dough with oil, cover with clingfilm and leave to settle for an hour before shaping.
  7. In the meantime, prepare the melted ghee and garlic and herb mixture. In a small saucepan, warm up the ghee and remove from the heat, then add the chopped garlic and chopped coriander. Stir to combine.
  8. On a lightly floured surface, flatten each naan bread with a rolling pin or your hands and place over the griddle pan or barbecue for 2-3 minutes on each side until the dough is fully cooked and slightly charred, being careful that it doesn't burn.
  9. Brush with the bread with the garlic and herb ghee and serve immediately.
