Lo and No Alcohol wines are growing enormously in popularity these days. They taste great too, here are a couple from two of the Ireland’s most popular producers Santa Rita and Torres.
2021 Santa Rita De-Alcoholised Sauvignon Blanc €7.50
new to the Irish market and launching in March 2022, the Santa Rita De-Alcoholised wine is fermented in the traditional way, but they use a spinning cone to remove the alcohol. The wine still has all the great Sauvignon Blanc aromas of grass and asparagus and the flavours of citrus fruit, but with a minimum amount of 0.4% alcohol. This will be widely available in Dunnes, SuperValu, Tesco and most independent off licences. Look out for the special launch offer price of €6.00 per bottle. There is a red version, made from Cabernet Sauvignon which is also great.
2019 Natureo (Red) €7.95
With its distinctive German style bottle the Natureo Red has a new label with floral motifs representing the floral character of the wine. This 0% alcohol red wine is made by Torres, one of Spain’s best-known producers. This wine made from a blend of Garnacha (Grenache) and Syrah using a complex process that leaves no alcohol. It has lots of lovely summer fruit and berry flavours. Widely available from O’Brien’s Wines, Mitchell & Son, as well as SuperValu, Dunnes, Lidl, Carry-Out, Spar, EuroSpar, Next Door, and Molloys Liquor stores.
