2020 Blume Do Rueda Verdejo

Look out for Lidl’s new range of wines on offer in-store this autumn. I particularly enjoyed their selection from Spain and Portugal.

2020 Blume Do Rueda Verdejo €8.99

This is a great value wine made from native Spanish white grape Verdejo. Rueda is one of northern Spain’s best-known white wine regions and is now hugely fashionable. This wine has lots of citrus fruit aromas with hints of fennel.

But when you taste it, it comes into its own, with lots of lemon/lime flavours, a hint of anise and tons of fresh acidity.

This is a perfect lunch wine and I recommend it served with fish tacos made from whitefish mixed with avocado and white cabbage.

2019 Torre de Ferro Do Dão €12.99

This is a real find — a light refreshing red wine from the northern Portuguese region of Dão. It is made from a blend of Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz — aka Tempranillo.

Dão has hot, dry summers and very cold winters and the sandier soils in the centre of the region tend to produce a lighter style of red like this one. This has lots of red fruit flavours, cherry and raspberry with lovely soft tannin and good acidity.

I would serve this with roast chicken.
