Good cause #NoFilter with Denise Smith: Beauty brands that support Breast Cancer Awareness
Breast Cancer Awareness month may be drawing to a close, but here are the brands you can support, and in turn, help support women across Ireland who have been impacted by the deadly disease.
1. SOSU by Suzanne Jackson She is Strength Lashes, €5.95
Since teaming up with Breast Cancer Ireland last year, beauty boss Suzanne Jackson has helped raise more than €50k for the cause. Once again this year, all profits from the sale of these fabulously fluttery falsies will go to the charity. Made from super soft fibres, and with a gentle curl, these natural-looking lashes flare slightly towards the outer corner of the eye to create a subtle cat-eye effect. Miaow!
2. TanOrganic Certified Organic Self-Tan, €22.95
Because my tanning regime happens year-round, I'm all the more excited to bronze up with TanOrganic who, for the month of October, is donating €1 to Look Good Feel Better for every product sold on tanorganic.com. Just to sweeten the deal, all TanOrganic products are free from any nasty ingredients, and your skin will become more hydrated over time when you commit to this tanner. Beautiful, tanned skin minus the sun damage? Hallelujah.
3. Jo Malone London Peony and Blush Suede Cologne, €112
If there was ever a reason to splurge on a bottle of Jo, it's this. For every sale of the fresh, floral and luxurious Peony and Blush Suede 100ml Cologne, the brand will donate €25 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Smelling good never felt so right.
4. ghd Platinum Pink, €209/ghd Gold Pink, €165
Why not have super-sleek hair while supporting a good cause? To celebrate 16 years of supporting breast cancer charities around the world, ghd has launched its 'Take Control Now' campaign in partnership with the Irish Cancer Society. Available in Peter Mark salons and online at petermark.ie from today while stocks last, €10 from every pink limited edition styler sold will go to the Irish Cancer Society.
Tried and tested
Look good feel better the make over brush set, €27
Not so much a 'Tried & Tested' as a call to action, I'm asking you to show some support to a charity that truly uses the power of make-up to change lives. We all know the transformative powers of make-up, none more so than the women who have come through the doors of Irish charity Look Good Feel Better (LGFB).
The organisation uses the power of make-up to help rebuild self-confidence and self-esteem for women who have gone through cancer treatment. These amazing women attend workshops all over Ireland, run by a dedicated team of volunteer make-up artists that touch on everything from skincare to hair loss and nail care.
In light of Breast Cancer Awareness month, it's never been more apparent that more and more women need this service. Finding out you have cancer can be daunting and life-changing, the added stress of the appearance- related side effects of treatment can be demoralising and very hard to cope with.
Cancer can rob a woman of her energy and strength, but with the support of LGFB, it need not take away her self-confidence.
The service to date has provided support to nearly 10,000 patients.
To help more women who have gone through cancer treatment to rebuild their self- esteem, you can donate €2 by texting LIPGLOSS to 50300. Or if you are a beauty professional with relevant make-up or skincare skills, and would like to help support the charity's workshops, go to lookgoodfeelbetter.ie/volunteer.
You can also show your support by purchasing this fabulous Look Good Feel Better make-up brush set, €27, from Marks & Spencer or lookfantastic.com.
